A new type of bot being operated out there on the Internet, now interestingly enough is using Web Servers for initiating a DoS (Denial of Service) attack, as opposed to home or business PCs.
The notion is that since web servers have high-speed connectivity to the Internet vs. your average home PC, better to compromise a single web server for a DoS attack rather than 50 PCs.

I am not sure if this is a first, but it sure seems like a first in the industry. Most service providers who stop DDoS attack, do not provide any detailed logs, IP information, etc. on the attack. Reasons vary from inability to stop all the malicious packets (which might filter through), to secrecy, etc.
However, I think Staminus may have just raised the bar. I just came across their forum post (which is quite old), but I was totally taken back. Staminus is now providing detailed log reports, etc. from the client’s Control Panel.

“25 year old Petru Bogdan Belbita and 28 year old Cornel Ionut Tonita, both from Romania, were arrested in Canada and Croatia respectively. They stand accused, along with five other defendants, of duping customers of financial institutions, including PayPal, Citibank, Capital One, into divulging information such as credit card or account details, which were then used for fraudulent purposes, back in 2007.”
